Pat,

We think it was a fellow named William Anderson who at age 20 lived in
Scranton, PA in 1850 and later in 1886 was granted the mineral rights to
what (he called?) Scranton, CO.
Interesting thing about the Colorado Eastern, without track or trains, it
was still in existence at least in the 1990s owning some valuable property
in downtown Denver.

Scranton, Colorado was a small coal strip mine. Not very good coal I was
told. It is now in the general area of the new Denver airport. So flying
from Scranton to Scranton today.

Got the information from Chuck Yungkurth a couple years ago. He showed me
an old railroad map showing the rail stub to Scranton. I always think about
this every time I fly through the Denver Airport.
