Subject: Boonton Line east end - last hurrah
"meadows.jpg" - image/jpeg, 172472 bytes, 1000x643 (24bit)

OK, here's more pix from my last "day of photography" on the east end of
the Boonton Line, last Wednesday, Sept. 18. Pretty much all these
shots/locations are little changed from the last days of the EL...

STREETSIGN: A rather appropriate street sign we found in North Newark!

BLOOMFIELD: A view of an eastbound crossing one of several bridges
right-in-a-row as the track cuts diagonally across the street grid in
this section of Bloomfield, just east of Glen Ridge.

GLENRIDGE: A train arrives at the Benson St. (Glen Ridge) station, AKA
"NY&GL Headquarters." You can see the station has taken quite a beating
since its fire!

GLENRIDGEFAMILY: A rather poignant scene, a father and his young son (on
the Erie bench under the station eaves) wait for the mother to step off
the train. Of interest are the Comet V coaches, just arrived 2 weeks
earlier, and only two days two go on this line... :(

MEADOWS: A beautiful reflection shot of the first westbound of the day
just east of Arlington, crossing the Jersey Meadowlands on a big
causeway. The train is running wrong main due to construction. It's
splitting the signals west of DB Interlocking (that's why the rightmost
signal (eastbound) is a double-head interlocking approach, and the
westbound signal is a standard single-head ABS signal. Note in the haze
at the upper left, the light blue structure of the former DL&W "Upper
Hack" lift bridge (today part of NJT's "Main Line")

NORTHNEWARK: A train rolls through the site of the former North Newark
station. Note the Erie concrete milepost 8 at the left, and the grass
growing nicely near the bridge... :(

NORTHNEWARK2: About a half-mile west of the last location, another
westbound rolls past the houses lining the tracks at this former
industrial location.

ROWEST: A train pulls into the Rowe St. (Bloomfield) station.

ROWEST-KAY: Engineer (and list member) Steve Kay smiles for his photo
during the stop. This was Steve's last run over the east end of the
Boonton Line.

Enjoy! :)
