Dear List:

After hearing that MRL was scrapping a number of SD45 era locomotives, I
thought it was the end for MRL 332, former EL #3657.

Not so. Attached are 4 images from the morning of September 12, 2014 taken
in Shelby, Montana.

After returning to Shelby on time on Amtrak #8 from Seattle, I had a couple
of hours waiting at the station for my daughter to pick me up. It seems
Amtrak was always running late, so she thought she could sleep in longer-Ha.
Both my trains #7 and #8 Empire Builder ran on-time. We went out on train
because my Wife needed a procedure that could not be done in Montana-and
neither procedure she had there was really successful-a reason for posting
delay.

Point is, I had time to watch trains as the morning ice fog lifted. Low and
behold, there was MRL #332 helping make up a train and then running east
bound to where I did not ask. MRL 332 was one of the 12 locomotives leased
to BNSF for "captive" service due to the BNSF power shortage. One change on
the frame designation, as it now has "eXtended" electronics, so it would be
an SD##-X2. It also has a HotShot auxiliary power unit (APU) to reduce
idling. Without looking (and delaying this longer), I forgot if it still
has the larger engine, or the SD40 engine (I have pictures of it in the
shop).
