The Boonton Line was single-tracked in the mid-1960s, I believe. All three
tracks were atop the bridges - check out the attached image from my
collection taken in August of 1964. That's the Boonton Drill on the third
track (and this is the pin-connected deck truss that stands today shorn of
track). The current NJT main is left-most track, and the center track is
still in place - decrepit - but the track has been removed from the center
span. This is where NJT plans on temporarily re-routing trains.

The fourth span vacancy can be seen at the far left, with the fence blocking
access to the hole. :) You can also see the freighthouse in the haze about
a third of the way back over the train. The telltales are for the Main
Street overpass from which this photo was taken.
