More scenes from along the 'Bloom' as it was in the mid-60s.

FIRST - the DL&Ws Luzerne station. From this view looking North along the (still) double-tracked) line, you can see the Lehigh Valley's trestle they used to access the businesses on the east side of Forty-Fort. It also gives a great view of the green paint & red trim used on these stations. It was my day off & I traveled down the line to Kingston from West Pittston (my hometown). I was unable to get in this station but Wyoming had the door kicked in by bums & had a great collection of beer & wine bottles. No old tkts or trainorders, but climbing ontop of the coalbin in the freight section, I found a 3-mantle gaslamp covered with dust & soot. It shows how long these stations had been there.
SECOND - The Glen Alden shops in West Pittston at the Montgomery Avenue crossing. Once again, still double-tracked with the siding in the foreground going down the grade to an old reefer sitting on blocks used by the Wagner Ice Co. I don't know if they still got shipments of ice at this late date, but the siding was in use. On the other side is a siding serving Glen Alden from the south end (there was a switch at the North end of the shops too. Note the loading dock at the square building just before the crossing. This was the G.A. power plant. The Susquehanna River bridge cna be seen in the distance.
