The reports are all true! Both the Erie and DL&W
boxcars in Elmira have been saved from the scrapper
and will be preserved in their home territories.

Just for the record, Erie 75486 is staying in Elmira
and will be used for an exhibit in Eldridge Park. The
project is a joint venture of the Eldridge Park
Carousel Preservation Society and the Chemung Valley
Railway Historical Soceity.

DL&W 54782 is indeed headed to Scranton. While we
would like to have seen it stay here in the Elmira
area, it was concluded that the Scranton arrangement
with the D-L was the best home for this significant
car. If it had stayed here, it would have been a
static display in the park, now it will be placed back
on live rails

The Erie car is the only 75000 series boxcar that I am
aware of that was not converted to camp car
arrangement (at least two of these survive) so it may
be a last of kind in some respects.

I've attached one picture of the DL&W car being loaded
last Friday and a recent picture of the Erie car as it
looked a few days ago, the logo has since been touched
up further.

Many thanks to all that made this possible!
