Mike & List,

Look in the Diamond, page 2 of Volume 24 (2010), Issue 4 where you will see
a picture of a Phoebe Snow coach being re-lettered. It looks like Hoboken to
me and I suspect it is being done for the Cabot-Lodge campaign train -
comments on my suspicions are welcomed. The EL apparently wanted to put its
best foot forward with this special; the train sparkled. The consist was 5
Phoebe Snow coaches plus #99. The day of the special turned out to be gray
and wet, precisely the kind of day that a simple point and shoot of that era
could not deal with. I did take two shots of the stop in Chatham which I
attach here but both show just a rather poor view of #99. As you can see,
the train just sat on the west bound main while the speeches were made. Also
of note, Train #3 (Phoebe Snow) preceded the special and had ex-Erie private
car #3 on the hind end.

It's fun to note the small details. So the merger is 10-17-60 and Dan
photographed #99 on 10-30 re-lettered, but without a hyphen and this was
the end car on the Henry Cabot Lodge train. So all six cars on the
train were re-lettered EL. I wonder what the consist for that special
was and did the other cars in the train have the hyphen. #99 did get a
hyphen added by December '60 (see EL Color Guide to Cars p.10).
