"DLW_1939_4-6-4_nose_to_nose_with_PRR_3768.jpg" - image/jpeg, 2400x1675 (24bit)

To hopefully squelch the decades-long debate, I'll present the following.

Coworker Rudy Garbely located some Kodachrome footage of the '39 World's
Fair. Screen shots are attached, but in case they don't get posted, the
link to the footage is below. At 1:12 is the nose of the engine showing
the classic DL&W use of aluminum paint and trim, and at 1:26 is a scene of
people entering a boat tail obs car; in the background the flank of the
Hudson can clearly be scene. Attached is an image of Lackawanna 1939 in the
Railroads on Parade pageant.

The skirt is clearly BLACK with imitation gold lettering, as was the
Lackawanna style at the time.

The maroon skirt was the creation of Willard Sturdevant in the 1980s during
his days with the Steamtown Foundation. He recalled that he painted the
skirt maroon on 4-6-2 2317 and then continued it through the cab and onto
the tender to match the stripe on the passenger cars. He said he didn't
know what the color was at the World's Fair, but his goal was to be
respectful of the history while making the train look good. He succeeded
beyond expectations as many railfans had been claiming the World's Fair
Hudson also had maroon skirts. I had seen color of the Hudson in the 1990s
so I knew it was black, but I didn't have anything to share until today.

Anthony Bozym, your model is correct.
