The screened panels on the side of the nose were retrofitted to the units around the mid-1950s. I believe these serve the same
purpose as the louvers on the PA's noses - providing air to cool the traction motors.

I'm not sure if they worked well or not, because by the time EL arrived, the vents were gone.

Speaking of which, I'm baffled why Rapido didn't do these in EL paint. (Well, technically they ARE doing the "Erie with EL numbers"
variation) No one to the best of my knowledge has ever done FA2s in EL....

Regarding the salability of Erie diesels.... I think many people have the Life-Like Erie FA2s already and probably have a hard time
justifying paying more for another set of FAs (arguably a much nicer set, however). And Rapido knows its market and what it can
produce. If they say they aren't getting orders for a specific roadname... they ain't lyin'
