Subject: Dover's "Moller's Rock" view - then and now
"dover-now__Nov_2003_.jpg" - image/jpeg, 240875 bytes, 1153x769 (24bit)

I dragged my poor wife (OK, not exactly "dragged"; she enjoys hiking,
too :) down the street, now that the leaves are down, to look at the
beautiful view from the Moller's Rock overlook here in Dover. Moller's
Rock is more infamously known as the location where the KKK would burn
crosses over the town of Dover back in the 1920s, a history the town
would rather forget. Alas, there is still the concrete foundation here
of where the crosses would be mounted, a sign of the Klan's horrible
hold on the locals.

Fortunately, sanity and intelligence prevailed, and this pox on the town
has long since vanished. Moller's Rock then became a terrific overview
point for the DL&W/EL/NJT passenger yard in town. With camera in hand, I
snapped a number of photos from up here. I remembered a Bob Bahrs shot
that appeared in "EL in Color, Vol. 3 - The East End" taken from this
same location, so vaguely remembering that shot, I tried to duplicate it
today.

Much to my surprise, I did a pretty good job duplicating Bob's shot
(albeit 33 years later!), and equally surprisingly, the look of the
location has little changed (well, the equipment is all new, but the
"feel" is there.

With Bob's permission, I've attached his shot ("then") and my shot
("now"). Bob's shot shows the RS3 along the yard ladder, which today is
heavily blocked by a taller tree line (nature stops for no one!), but
you can definitely see the "then and now." I will scan some more
overview photos shortly.
