Folks,

I do not know the exact date that Erie's JN Tower @ Jeff Jct. was removed
(more than likely the mid to late 1950's), and was replaced with a little
"shack".

Here are three images of that area near the end of its life (attached).

A quartet of D&H diesels, sitting at the foot of the Conrail (former EL)
grade circa 1978 (this view looks south)

A trio of D&H diesels on the Conrail (former EL) grade with Guilford #368
in the mix circa 1985 (this view looks north)

And southbound manifest, showing JN Cabin, circa 1986 (this view looks
north).

In 1982 the tracks south of the junction only ran a mile or two further to
Stevens Point and ended. The junction was used as a mean of re-routing D&H
Albany-Binghamton high-wides around the low, narrow tunnel @ Belden Hill,
NY, up the hill and onto the former EL main, then west to Susquehanna and
Binghamton.

The tunnel bore at Belden was fully rebuilt in 1986. Not long thereafter
the rest of the D&H's Penn Division, Jeff Junction, JN, and the Conrail
grade rails to the former EL main were removed, thus ending the line
forever.
