If memory serves me, Bill Sheppard's "Tidewater Terminals" book shows the
"Arches" with a single track running through it. I assume this would have
lasted until at least the end of the EL (maybe a little into Conrail as
well) to allow trains to access the Boutell auto unloading facility and a
cold storage warehouse at the former Erie Pavonia Terminal. Or was the
Weehawken branch used to reach this?

Attached are some photos of switcher 449 at the Boutell facility, and facing
towards the arches (note the cold storage warehouse) - both shots taken in
1974.

Here's what that looks like today:

The bridge over Montgomery St. was for the Erie. These tracks led to the
Montgomery Ave. coach yards (to the upper left in this photo, where the
grassy field is). It also connected to the Weehawken Branch roughly under
the Turnpike overhead bridge.

Up until just a few years ago, a signal bridge remained over these tracks,
just to the east of the Montgomery St. bridge and just behind the cold
storage warehouse. It was easily visible from the Turnpike coming into the
Lincoln Tunnel.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
