I want to share photos I took today of the Piermont NY depot. The Piermont
Historical Society has done one fantastic job getting this structure saved
and renovated! This is also one cute depot!!! It just seems destined to be
modelled. Without any compression on any dimension it could fit on any size
model railroad.

I expressed amazement to one of the PHS Board, Laird Kelly, about how well
the depot had survived. Laird responded:
"It was also saved by its design. The overhang of the roof has kept the
sides out of the weather for its entire history. Once we got the new roof
in place, we felt sure the rest could wait for us to catch up."

Laird also shared with me the 1883 news article re the station that I add at
the end. This plus paint analysis was the source of the authentic original
paint scheme.

Thanks to Laird and to this whole committee, Society, and the community of
Piermont for their foresight, energy, and sense of history.

The first photo looks north toward Nyack. The third and fourth look south.
When you look at #5, remember that even PAs stopped here!! The last photo
-- courtesy of Laird -- was taken before any renovation was done. This
little station could have easily have been gone by now!

THE PIERMONT STATION

"The new station at Piermont-on-the-hill is nearly completed, and we do not
hesitate to say that it is one of the handsomest little buildings we have
ever seen. Its architecture is of Swiss design, the architect being Mr.
M.W. Debaun, of the firm of M.W. and H. Debaun who erected it.

"It is 20x30 feet on the ground, two stories high, and elegantly fitted up.
On the first floor are the waiting rooms and ticket office, which are
finished in Georgia pine, and the second floor is divided into living
apartments for the station agent. The building is painted a French gray
with olive trimmings, and presents a very attractive appearance both inside
and out. The grounds will be nicely graded and adorned, so that they will,
in point of beauty, be in perfect keeping with the building. The builders,
the Messrs DeBaun have done their work well, and the effort is very
pleasing."
