"DSC_7277_resize.jpg" - image/jpeg, 1053x700 (24bit)

Hi folks,

I had the pleasure of seeing lister Joe Braun's HO scale layout
yesterday. He's an Erie fan, as most know, so the layout - while quite
freelanced - has a lot of Erie equipment.

The layout, in a rough description, is a loop-to-manyloops design.
Trains start off in a four-deck loop staging yard, 12 tracks per deck
with a minimum radius of 48" (!!!). Each of the four decks enter the
layout at different points, but ultimately they are routed to a large
reversing loop. There are many notably aspects to the layout, including
a large through-girder bridge and a through-girder swing bridge, and a
gigantic roundhouse are. The passenger terminal tracks appear to be able
to hold a 12-14 car passenger train. And all the curves are beautifully
superelevated (I was taking notes here!)

While no scenery has yet been put in, the layout is a magnificent piece
of work, with fine attention to detail when it comes to trackwork.

Here are a few of the photos I took, I'll be putting more up later, in
addition to video I shot of the various trainsets that Joe ran.
Descriptions follow below based on the filename.

Thanks to Joe and his wife Evy for their hospitality! Now... how about
photos from YOUR layouts? :)

- Paul

DSC_7224: A nice view of one of Joe's handlaid #16 (yes, #16!) turnouts.
Passenger cars look beautiful crossing on these.
DSC_7226: An Erie freight climbs upgrade after emerging from the staging
loops. The interlocking at the left almost looks like Waldwick, doesn't
it?
DSC_7232: Apologies for the slight blur, but isn't this an awesome
sight? The Erie freight pulls throught the "Collins Curve-like" S-curve
at one end of the layout. Note the opposing superelevations at each end
of this curve. Wonderful!
DSC_7234: Erie E8s rest while the Phoebe Snow sits in the background
DSC_7237: The control panel. The layout uses Del-Aire
pneumatically-controlled turnouts (those are the switches on the track
diagram, the switches below are block assignment controls)
DSC_7260: The entrance to the staging yards
DSC_7270: An Erie-powered CN "Super Continental" around another
beautifully superelevated curve. What, you didn't know the Erie and CN
has a runthrough at Niagara Falls? ;)
DSC_7274: Erie Heavy Mikados!
DSC_7275: Berks and Mikes around the turntable
DSC_7277: Our passenger train comes around the engine facility
DSC_7281: Passenger train comes through the interlocking

DSC_7291: Better yet, TWO Berks!
