"12-06-06_007.jpg" - image/pjpeg, 1280x960 (24bit)

Yesterday on my way home from a business trip in Syracuse I drove through Susquehanna, PA enroute to Starrucca (pictures attached and btw - what a great achievement for the Erie, and still in great shape 160 years later!) There's a very long string of NJ Transit commuter coaches parked on a siding immediately outside of town. Looks as if they are in the early stages of vandalism. Does anyone know what the future holds for this equipment?

I am trying to find a book called "Country Carrier of the Poconos: The
Delaware Valley Railroad" by James N. J. Henwood. The DV ran from a
connection with the DL&W in East Stroudsburg to Bushkill, PA. If anyone
knows where I might find a copy to borrow or buy, please contact me
off-list.

My pipeline channelled this book by Robert Yanosey (Morning Sun) to me
today. I was told it was right off the presses and am writing on this
assumption. The book is a great resource with informative text and photos
organized progressively along the various Erie lines in NJ. Just about every
station and structure is covered, although one will find some places
missing. The Bergen County line has photos of only the Garfield station.
Piermont is not present in the Northern Branch section. On the other hand,
many other places have several photos showing historical progressions in
painting and color, eg, four generations of the Park Ridge station paint
shemes are shown. And I love some of those shots that show period autos and
the first generation of Public Service buses in the gray, white, and blue
colors. This another one of those books I am just happy to have and grateful
that someone took the time and energy to write, research, and assemble.

I could not agree more, Joe. For all the time I've spent trying to get a handle
on railroads in New
Jersey, which is not all that easy for somebody who grew up where there really
are HILLS, Bob
Yanosey's book is extremely helpful in getting a grip on the branches, where the
junctions were, and
how they operated together. Now I (more or less) "get it." Also, for all the
mentions of the
Croxton engine terminal, and other similar fabled locations, those are the only
photos I've ever
seen of the roundhouse there.

Thanks, Bob, for putting out that book.
