"EL_Arlington_954.jpg" - image/jpeg, 500x426 (24bit)

The discussion regarding the wastewater tanks from Drew in Boonton reminded me that I have an old instamatic shot taken in August 1969 of what I believe was the Boonton Drill coming east with a cut of those cars. See attached. This was taken on a Saturday morning around 9 am, right after a fan trip pulled by the 759 had gone west. I believe that trip was a turn to Scranton. I didn't hang around, so I don't know when or if the 954 went back to Boonton that day. The train here was relatively short, just a few boxcars at the front, the cut of Drew tanks, and an ex-Erie Dunmore caboose. Thus, was most likely not a late-running PN98 (later renamed SC8 from SC to CX).

Also, in either late 1969 or very early 1970, I remember riding down the NJ Turnpike alongside Port Newark, and I saw an EL switcher on CNJ trackage. I was out on a railfan trip, and I asked the guy driving about this. He just said "yea, the EL sometimes sends a crew down here". Only recently did I learn (via this list) that this was a carfloat operation and it started up around 1963 or 64. My sighting must have been very near the end of this operation.

FYI,

Jim Gerofsky
