List,

In reviewing early issues of the Railroad Gazette, two interesting news
items appeared. The DL&W established its Signal Department on April 1, 1900.
After that date they issued a number of articles.

On March 7, 1902 the DL&W had an article entitled: "Delivering Orders
Without Stopping the Train." (see attached) In it they describe the
procedure in such a way as one might believe that the DL&W developed this
technique for railroads. Does anyone know the origin of hooping up orders?

On February 20, 1903 the DL&W changed their stop indication from red to blue
in dwarf and pot signals. Does anyone have information on the use of blue
signals?
