Subject: Totowa Roustabout yesterday and... today?! :)
"1226_on_the_Totowa_Roustabout.jpg" - image/jpeg, 2014x1808 (24bit)

Well, I heard the Norfolk Southern HO-2 gabbing away on the radio today and figured I would check out some action on the Totowa Industrial, former "Lackawanna Boonton Line", and the place Erie Lackwanna's Totowa Roustabout work ALL day every week in 1975.
First flash back 36 years ago and here's my photo of EL GP-7 1226 at the same area in 1975, to my surprise today the HO-2 had a train the resembled the Roustabount from decades earlier! Now Omega Warehouse no longer gets a boxcar or two anymore. And Star Stainless Screw may see a boxcar now and then. It really seems like Royal Distributors is one of the last active customers on the spur, and a busy one at that! I found about 8 cylindrical hopper cars spotted at the factory, and the HO-2 had about 10 more in its train today. Take a look at this scene, a long freight train on the former DL&W main!! :)
The HO-2 was hauling its entire train of loads and empties from its trip from Dover, but it was still nice to go back in time today and expernce the same sights and sounds from long ago. Here's a few photos of HO-2 working at a place where, sadly, you may not find a trace of a railroad three decades from today. Time will tell. Enjoy!
According to what I found online here's the scoop on Royal Distributors, LLC, it is located in Totowa. The company was established in 1992. Royal has a line of private label ingredients under the " Royal " brand. Their primary customers are in the Asian market. They supply flour to the noodle manufacturers, distributors and restaurants. Royal has six types of flour which is produced solely under a private label. The flour is used in many applications, such as production of spring rolls, skins, steam buns, pan cakes and noodles. In addition to flour they also supply private label corn starch, potato starch, and dusting starch. And carry other items such as salt, lard, sugar, chopsticks and garbage bags. On routes that are mainly in NY, NJ and PA areas; however they deliver trailer load quantities from Boston to Florida.

AND they keep the former DL&W rails polished!

Todd ~
