This was asked about on another message board: Was there bus service
between Hoboken Terminal and Manhattan back in the EL days? Yes there was,
in addition to PATH and the ferry there was the No. 63 bus to Port
Authority Bus Terminal (PABT). Notice was carried in all the suburban
schedules. [see attached image from an April 1966 Greenwood Lake-Boonton
Line folder]

I used to see the bus but I never rode it, I always took PATH or
occasionally the ferry. Now I wish I had ridden it a couple times. I recall
the reasons I used to pass up the opportunity. The running time for the bus
was supposed to be twenty minutes but I was always suspicious of that. I
had a hunch it could vary widely. Another deterrent was the PABT
destination. I would have been headed for Grand Central and that was much
further west than I wanted to be. Plus back when I was riding, the late
1960s and early 1970s, the PABT had a spotty reputation.

As I recall the bus used to load right in the ferry plaza out the
terminal's north-facing doors. Not further west in the local bus station
area but I could be wrong about that. It's been a while! I always presumed
the bus operated via the Holland Tunnel and wondered how did it get uptown
in Manhattan? It occurs to me now that instead the bus probably used local
streets in Hoboken to reach the Lincoln Tunnel. I think that would've been
a better routing.

Anyone ever ride the 63?
