Considering the way some scrapping operations have gone in the past, I hope URHS is keeping a close eye on this to prevent over-exuberance on the part of the scrappers: "Let's clean out all the junk in Boonton!"

Randy,

Unfortunately, these cars have been allowed to deteriorate to the point where scrapping might be a kindness. This past summer the Whippany Railway Museum
was allowed to remove some needed parts from one of the ex-CNJ coaches because it was nearly a twin to the Museum's "Jersey Coast." (I believe these is the
same one which was lettered "Lackawanna" on one of Paul T's postcards}. First of all, the interiors had been "renovated" to turn them into shops and then over

the years water, insects and vines had all done damage to parts of the interior to the point that, for example, none of the window frames were complete.

And this car was probably in the best shape of any of them. Luckily, most of the interior wood paneling had not been vandalized; this was mainly what we saved.

We looked at the second ex-CNJ car to see if there was anything we could salvage. I have attached a photo of the interior. Note especially the condition of the

floor. As much as I hate to see vintage equipment disappear, most groups are working with limited financial and manpower resouces and expending them on cars

that have gotten to this condition does not seem the best way to go.
