Here's a few images documenting a typical scene that played out countless times, a meet at Great Notch. This is the Winter of 1975. In the first image you see U33C 3318 plus a second GE U-boat on a westbound stopped at the station on Track 1. Note once again the yard has some cars setoff, you can see a covered hopper in the distance. So many times I watched this play out, this was one of the few I photographed.
Soon an eastbound from Denville arrives with 5 units led by SDP-45 3639, an SD45-2, SD-45, U25B, SD-45 working hard upgrade in Notch 8 at the station, the units are obscured by a cloud of sand as over 13,000 hp worth of diesel locomotives struggle to move tonnage over the First Watchung Mountian. I wish I had video of these EL trains! After the eastbound clears the 3318 resumes its trip west to Scranton, and trailing right behind is the EL 453 with a Silver Lake Drill heading for the Greenwood Lake spur heading for Wayne and Riverdale. As I said I think this drill ventures west three days a week, and worked the Orange Branch Tuesday's and Thursday's (Just guessing?)
