The Railroad Station was part of a larger complex. We have already restored
the Railroad Station and we restored the Section House on its original
foundation. The foundations to the rest of the 100 year old plus buildings
are on the portion of the property that they want to build the Super Wawa
on. All the foundations to those buildings will end up in a landfill
somewhere and history will be lost. And...there is already a Wawa right
across the street!

Proposed Restoration Pojects

The 9.8 acre property adjascent to the North Pemberton Railroad Station was
once the heart and soul of our Township. From the mid 1800's to the mid
1900's most goods coming into the Township and products leaving the Township
went through the North Pemberton Railroad Station. The complex housed a
passenger depot, section house, bunk house, turntable, freight house, coal
yard, lumber yard, hay press, storage sheds for both building and
agricultural supplies, hardware store, scales, and a Standard Oil depot. It
is our desire, through grants and donations, to restore the complex as it
was 100 years ago.

Our museum has run out of space. Most items are stored and cannot be
displayed. With the refurbishing of the existing building we could have a
spacious museum with areas for research, interactive educational displays,
and rooms for educational programs. The Hay Press building could be
restored and become an agricultural museum. The Freight House could be
restored to become a railroad museum. The turntable could be restored for
demonstrations.

Our mission is for preservation, restoration, and education. With your
help, our present educational programs could be expanded to include:

interactive displays and stationary displays to experience our history
first hand.

Brochures would be prepared for guided or self-guided tours of the complex
and Rails to Trails.

Montgomery's Store and Lumber Yard that stood for 90 years could be restored
to house a period snack shop, gift shop, craft shop, and/or bicycle shop
for visitors of the museum and Rails to Trails.

The proposed extension of 14 miles to the Rails to Trails using the Kinkora
Railway from Florence to our North Pemberton Station would make the
Pemberton Station Museum a centerpiece.

With your donations our station complex would not only become the center for
our great history but also become a center for the Rails to Trails program
which has been recognized not only for its trail guide, but one that honors
the history of the great railroads that were once the life's blood of
America.

The proposed project will preserve the present land with little impact upon
the environment. It would not contribute to urban sprawl. We should take
pride in our history. Let's make sure we don't lose this opportunity to
hold onto and display our history for the purpose of educating our residents
and future residents in the generations to come.

Lee,

I'm not familiar with the North Pemberton station so I'm uncertain what is
in place. The foundations you speak of, are they for another railroad
building adjacent to the station? Is the station building, which has been
restored, in danger?
