Re: (erielack) Tad's Steaks (in NYC)

Walt,

Two thoughts on this. The first is when I moved to Manhattan in the 70s,
Tad's were in midtown and downtown and yes it was chewy, but for someone like
me starting out, it was fine. As I became more established, I gradually
moved away from Tad's and ate and still eat at places on the Upper West Side
where I live. But, there was something about Tad's. It definitely served a
purpose for someone like me and with the baked potato, belly was full. I don't
recall how much it cost but it was more than $1.99.

The other thing is Pavonia in Jersey City. As many on the list can tell
you, that area of JC is now called Newport (the Jersey boys will correct me if
I'm not exactly accurate). Others know more about Newport's development than
I do but I take PATH there to go to the Newport Centre Mall. It's hard to
believe that that area was once Erie. Newport Centre has some great shots of
Erie when you enter at Washington Blvd.

Perhaps some of you Jersey boys can answer this question. In the
Pavonia/Newport PATH station, the old pillars are still there and engraved on them is
the letter "E". Is it possible that the letter means Erie? I looked at it
again when I was there on Thursday evening and made a note to ask the list
about this.
