The H&M station at Pavonia served the Erie terminal, and was marked with the "E" on the posts. It was so far inland that it had its own concourse under the outbound ends of the Erie platforms, complete with the colored lights and stairs to each platform -- and it was still a long walk from H&M to Erie.
BTW -- "Jersey" is for cows; we are/were "New Jerseyites." I thought you Yorkies might like to know.

Walt,
Perhaps some of you Jersey boys can answer this question. In the Pavonia/Newport PATH station, the old pillars are still there and engraved on them is the letter "E". Is it possible that the letter means Erie? I looked at it again when I was there on Thursday evening and made a note to ask the list about this.
