RE: (erielack) More 70's stuff

Paul, it's impossible to say with certainty what train this is, but with the
covered hopper at the headend, it's very unlikely to be NY-100 (BTW, it's
redundant to use the term "late-running", as at this date, even with the
lengthened schedule, NY-100 was almost always running late, the exception
being the short, mostly UPS Sunday night Chicago departure). More likely
ATSF-100, BS-2 or NY-98. TOFC could appear on almost any manifest train, and
was seen regularly on the first two.

Other comments: the train at Paterson Jct could have been a Paterson
Ordinary, but with six-axle power, a PO Ordinary is more likely. I believe
it frequently operated via this line. The cut of 40' EL boxcars may have
been stored here prior to scrapping. Finally, the presence of HB-1 on EL in
the mid-70's is not subject to debate. There are several HB-1 consists on
the ELHS website, including a 2/HB-1. It was a daily operation.

Ahhh, you can never go wrong with more EL Boonton Line, I always say!

Any idea of the symbol on this freight? Can't see any shadows so it's hard
to tell what time of day this shot was, but that pig flat second out should
be a clue... Dr. B?
