If you mean the first trailing point and then first facing point switch,  
that really is not an S curve.  The slight curve in those  two turn outs is 
nothing that couldn't be operated over with no  difficulty.  
 
Obviously the EL built the new loop at the least restricted curvature it  
could.   The switch to take the loop instead of continuing on towards  the 
cut or tunnel was not more than a small car length from the divider switch  of 
the high line and third track. Both of those two switches were restricted 
by  the overhead bridge of the tracks you see going off to the extreme right 
of the  photo. They went to the PRR and NYS&W interchange at Marion.
 
What I would like to point out to those who might not know, is that the  
large vacant field was once the home of a large roundhouse, which brings up my 
 questions.  Was it called Croxton?  Was it superseded by the one at  
County Road?   Were both in operation simultaneously for many  years?
