There's been some wonderful photos posted and linked lately.
A couple belated comments on Rich Onorevole's terrific shot
of three E8s on a westbound freight taken at Clifton in October
1974. I wonder if the engineer was having wheel slip problems
with those A-1-A E unit trucks in a driving rain storm. :>)
The Es had started showing up in freight service by then, were any
of them regeared?
That summer I shot some photos of the 800s (usually single
units) on the Port Jervis trains near Suffern. Most with the
unit's nose door open. I think I read (in DIAMOND?) a story
about Robert Collins getting ready to shoot some photos of
an E unit on a Port train just before the end. Mr.Collins went
to the ready tracks at Hoboken to close a nose door and then
piled discarded brake shoes and air hoses around it to
discourage the engine crew from re-opening it. Only an
employee could get away with something like that! LOL
