Re: (erielack) Preserving history, or trying to at least

The underside of the Fanny Road bridge is very similar to the southbound
Route 23 overpass over the Boonton line in Mountain View. That bridge was
built first with the northbound added some years later. I think the
southbound was built in the 20's. Both were removed with the realignment of
Route 23 in the 90's. It's amazing to see how similar the construction was.

On another note, I was up in Wayne earlier this month and found the Parish
Drive bridge over the old Boonton Line closed. I did some snooping around
and found some major work taking place on the bridge with a lot of Norfolk
Southern trucks around. I figured they assumed ownership of this property.
I asked one guy about it. I always wondered when it was built. He told me
it went up in 1939. This bridge was similar to the one at Riverview Drive
in Totowa, and the old Comly Road bridge at Lincoln Park. The Lackawanna
was in a massive grade-crossing reduction program at that time. There has
been a lot of discussion about the Parish Drive bridge for years. Some town
leaders want the bridge removed because of the significant grades on each
side of it. However, it looks like NS is repairing it. I assume there is a
lot of concrete repair necessary and the bridge supports probably need
replacement. I don't think much maintenance has been done on this bridge
for its 72 years. I think it was only painted once.
