I'm guessing the maximum speed limit on the L&HR in the '50's and '60's was
50 mph. The hottest train in 1956 was HO-6, scheduled from Allentown to
Maybrook in 4:15; over 102 miles this gives an average speed of 24 mph,
which sounds about right taking into account meets aas well as congestion
Allentown-Easton over CNJ.

L&HR - I discovered some Youtubes with footage of their trains. They were
not a typical drag-era operation. Old 8mm films have them moving at quite a
clip - a lot different than what you saw on the NYS&W and L&NE. What was
the speed limit on the L&HR? They probably got across NJ quickly.
