Costs for crews? How about using the bus drivers from some of the 220 bus lines NJ transit runs? TRANSIT in the name should tell you their GAME. If they cut out the sweet heart deals to Coach USA (it's not a American company http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coach_USA) there would be lots of money for the 11 rail lines they run. Tracks should be laid in one tube of the Lincoln Tunnel. This would be a instant way of increasing rail service. A NEW Hudson Terminal should be build. It doesn't have to be in the same place. The Lackawanna wanted to build it anyway. Continue the Lackawanna plan but tunnel under the river in the swallows to Governor's Island and then on to the Brooklyn Long Island Rail-Road Terminal. Offering direct NJ-Long Island train service via the New Hudson Terminal. This could be done today with Chicago-Albany-Montreal service or NEC services via Penn Station and it's not! Space is reserved in Penn Station for people riding commuter trains at
$10 instead of $100 a!
pop for a longer distance trip ticket. A one seat ride across NY state or even across the country! Put high tolls on the East River bridges to finally have them pay for their own repairs. Better yet sell them for a quick buck to a private company like the 're doing with the toll roads out west. ;Then tax then like private railroads (Erie-Lackawanna) this time spend the money on trains.Anymore idea's anyone? There are lots of costs involved in adding crews -- and itwould not be just one crew -- to provide adequate serviceyou'd need many more crews.
And if you want ridership, the trains need to go to PennStation New York instead of Hoboken, not possible with thetaking-forever maintenance of the North River Tunnels.
So, now you have to advocate for replacing current serviceinto NYP with MSU service AND add crews to provide shuttleservice to Hoboken as well.
