Ogden Mine Railroad (was: Re: (erielack) Bridge question)

If this hasn't yet been addressed, Gary is correct. The bridge is the last major structure remaining of the Ogden Mine Railroad.
A mile or so of the old roadbed which runs through Mahlon Dickerson Reservation north from Saffin Pond can be hiked.

For list content, when the railroad was originally chartered in the 1860's, it was authorized to connect to the Morris Canal
and the Morris & Essex RR. It terminated at Nolan's Point, where the iron ore was loaded onto boats for shipment on the
canal. Apparently, nothing about a rail connection was done until the early 1880's, when the Lackawanna reportedly expressed
an interest in buying the railroad. Instead, the Central of New Jersey rushed in and leased the Ogden Mine RR (for 999 years)and connected to it by building a line from Hopatcong Jct on the High Bridge Branch to Nolan's Point.

Larry Lowenthal includes a chapter on the Ogden Mine RR in his book "Iron Mine Railroads of Northern New Jersey."
