Re: (erielack) Inaccuracies in models....IHC K5A
On the MDC tenders:
The top of the bunker is a seperate piece. In fact the tender I have has an
oil bunker molded on top of the square top piece and a shallow coal load
molded on the bottom. Once removed, it would be a simple matter to
scratchbuild raised sides to make it a better match to prototype photos. In
fact maybe doing it in layers and using a thin styrene outside sheet, that
could have rivet detail pressed in from the backside, would work for this.
They certainly have the right look, even if not 100% accurate for an Erie
tender they do look good.
Speaking of steam.. I should pass on the deal a freind of mine got. At a
show he got a factory painted NPP DL&W Hudson and unpainted Pocono.. for
$325... for both of them. The kicker is the seller's story.. the guy told
my friend he was selling these for a woman who had them left over after a
garage sale.. seems the original owner passed away, leaving his wife and her
sister in the house.. sister gets into cleaning mode.. so they had another
fellow sell all these trains at a garage sale... including something like
300 brass engines.. for $5 and $10 each. I don't know how much I believe
that, but he did get a steal on the DL&W engines for sure. If it is true,
there's a couple women who'll be kicking herself finding out they could
easily have sold probably all of them for that much... and I wish to
heck I could find a garage sale like that!!!
