To all listers:
My wife and I just returned from an enjoyable visit to NJ. The weather was
great! We both attended the ELHS spring meet. So nice to really talk to many
of you in person.
While there, Mike Steinberg, Tim Stuy, Paul Tupaczewski, and myself attended
the first Board Meeting for the Diner Project on Monday, April 23. Progress,
options, fund raising, and other subjects were discussed. I can say that I
was pleased so far with our progress. We elected officers, and also discussed
our level of support among the different railfan organizations.
Our mission is to acquire a Diner once owned and operated by the Erie
Lackawanna, restore it to service for operation in the Pennsylvania, New
York, and New Jersey area. We are currently looking at, of course the Phoebe
Snow Diner, and several others. We have not ruled out an Erie car that might
also be available.
I hope that all list members keep in mind, that even though their has been no
information on this project for several weeks, we have been diligently
working on this, sometimes on a daily basis.
Many of you have pledged funds to support the acquisition of a Diner, and I
hope that offer is still valid. To really make this happen, we will need as
much support as possibly.
Paul Tupaczewski and I had a short meeting with the ELHS Board at the spring
meet. We requested that the ELHS as an organization, support what we are
trying to achieve. That is all we asked for. I am pleased to report that the
Board did just that. I wish to thank Schuyler Larrabee, and the other ELHS
Board members for taking the time to let us present what we are trying to
accomplish. A special thanks and a smile from Phoebe Snow goes to Larry
DeYoung. Thanks for your help Larry.
Mike Steinberg and Tim Stuy have been diligently working to bring other
organizations on board. I am pleased to report that we are having good
success with that. Pete Hasler from URRHS is aware of what we are doing.
I am personally very excited about this. The prospect of again experiencing
the pleasure of and EL Diner is very motivating. It is very possible, that an
EL Diner could operate on the first train over the newly restored cut off,
and sit in Hoboken station again. The car would also be available for service
on the Delaware-Lackawanna in Scranton. Accompanying URRHS trips are also a
possibility.
We are trying to make it happen.
