(erielack) July EL calendar photo...

July 1st. Here goes!

Ahhhh... here's a picture to warm the heart. Freshly-painted (only a little road grime on the trucks) GMY FA1 #7271 leads a B/Y F7B and a GMY F3A pulling out of Akron, OH with a lengthy freight train. My comments:

* The caption. UGH. The lead unit is incorrectly called the 7362 (not 7271). I'll stop there. ;)

* The scene. Typical city "gunk" - a neat brick building behind the lead unit, substandard track quality, concrete highway overpass, and a yard light tower. Modelers, have a field day - it's cool!

* The power. The star of the show is obviously the 7271. The gray-painted grabs up the nose are a nice touch. The classic single headlight is neat, too. And note the builder's plate is still on the unit, just ahead of the cab doors. Also note the intake atop the cab just to the right of the left horn, as well as the "firecracker" antenna. The trailing B-unit is plain, but no less interesting (note the open door!). The trailing F3 is also in the earlier variation of GMY (Roman lettering, yellow-ringed portholes). Just a darn neat lashup!

* The train. A neat mix of stuff. Some of the "more modern" color is begining to appear - note the bright red car in the middle of the train...
