Not really; it's a lot of work requiring special equipment to restack the
containers (as in don't even consider it) and it becomes much less
economic to only put one container per platform.

The other problems are low bridges resulting in really low wire in Dover
and Summit. Dover's due to replace all the problem bridges by 2010...

Not really. Where would you put gauntlet tracks at Summit, where there
are three tracks and two platforms in a cut. Shave the platforms and move
the tracks? That would make the island platform quite narrow at the
stairways and could be illegal. I don't think so. The DLW built the
Boonton Line specifically to get all the through freight off the
Morristown Line, and that's been butchered. Best way to run through
freight is via the Erie (NS).

Unfortunately, it ISN'T that easy. Rebuilding Summit station would be a
real pain. Of course, it would be really nice if they could widen the cut
enough for another (westbound) track and room for a gauntlet track for
freight, probably on the "wall" track used almost exclusively by the
Gladstone Branch, but I would not expect to see that ever. There are far
more important projects for this money.
