The weekend prior to July 4th, Tri-State Chapter NRHS ran some short
caboose hops over the ex-CNJ Dover & Rockaway Branch between Dover and
the new connection with the Morris & Essex at Wharton. What made the
trip noteworthy was the use of two interesting cabooses: Morristown &
Erie #4 (ex-NYS&W #0112) and restored DL&W #896. (of course, M&E C424
#18 as power was also pretty neat, too! :)

Here are some shots from that day that you may appreciate... ;)

"lion.jpg" shows the DL&W caboose sitting on the (blocked-off, don't
worry!) Sussex Ave. crossing in downtown Dover. A large crowd of
flea-market shoppers have gathered to ride this train. The Laughing Lion
(a great restaurant, I highly recommend it!) is at the left. Immediately
to the right of the locomotive cab is a historic marker noting where the
Morris Canal once came through here.

"sussex-xing.jpg" shows the two cabeese crossing Sussex Avenue in Dover.
That's the Dover Town Hall at the right (the brick building). The DL&W
main is three block straight ahead here.

"tom.jpg" is a view of list member Tom Schmieder flagging the same
crossing. Though not easily seen, he's wearing his ELHS polo shirt! :)

"garymike.jpg" is a view of list member Gary Kazin, in his "Uncle Sam"
garb for the forthcoming National Birthday. To the right of Gary, in
overalls and yellow T-shirt, is fellow list member Mike Del Vecchio.

Enjoy! :)
