Re: (erielack) Coal trains to Portland cement



I'd agree that the L&NE was a major cement carrier - in 1950, for instance, 
the L&NE moved 4,103,541 tons of anthracite coal (46.2% of total tons 
moved), 1,409,639 tons of bituminous coal (15.9%), and 2,164,386 tons of 
cement (24.4%).  Translated in carloads the L&NE reported 70,127 carloads of 
A-coal, 23,849 carloads of B-coal, and 43,852 carloads of cement in 1950.
    The L&HR did not serve the cement and slate belt as did the L&NE and 
DL&W. In 1950 the L&HR reported carrying 1,992,085 tons of merchandise, 
900,568 tons of B-coal, 571,858 tons of A-coal, 297,320 tons of "ores," and 
68,198 tons of limestone.  Cement was not a major item for the L&HR.
