Charles Walsh asked: > I presume that EL must have had back-up units that were pressed into > service on a Monday morning when the U34CHs were tardy in > returning east? Therein lies the rub: The only units that could pull the Pullman-Standard commuter coaches were the U34CH's. The P-S coaches were all electrically operated - lighting and climate control - and the U34CH's were the only diesels with head-end power. It would appear that that the EL would have to start reusing other U34CH's to handle the missing units' trains, or just annul the trains altogether. THIS is why NJDoT wasn't too happy! - Paul The Erie Lackawanna Mailing List Sponsored by the ELH&TS http://www.elhts.org ------------------------------
