Re: (erielack) The EL Hot 100...honorable mention #17
Pat and list, Speedwitch offers a kit conversion for the Branchline 40' 8' door model that I believe is a 9' door, would have to check my kit. The ends on the car in the photo are modified 4/5 which means a 10' inside height originally. You can see the 6" added by the roof and lower part of sides.Details Associates has a 4/5 end that is 10' 6" originally designed for the Athearn car. It is still an honest kitbash effort as the roof eaves are modified. Looking at the 1975 ORER these cars only had a 9'8" inside height!

List...
Like many other roads in the 1960s, the Southern Railway had a number of older 40' boxcars rebuilt to extend their useful lives. The Southern sent boxcars to Berwick and to Hamburg Industries for rebuilding in the 1968-69 time frame. The cars returned with larger 9' door openings, with either Youngstown or Camel sliding doors applied, deeper reinforced side sills, cut down ladders, and no running board. The cars were listed in the equipment register in the 46000 - 48499, 48500 - 49499, 49500 - 49999, and 500000 - 500174 number series. In all, 34 examples were found in the EL consist sheets, which would put this car in the 87-89 range in the EL Hot 100.

Systemwide, most often hauling either paper or furniture to northeast distributors.
Model...
None that I am aware of. Like many 40' boxcar rebuilds, a modeler could kitbash one using a Branchline Trains kit or Atlas car as a starting point. The larger door could be obtained from Kadee.
