Re: (erielack) FW: TUXEDO PHOTO

Hmmm. Now this is interesting. There were 2 private schools within the
confines of Tuxedo Park - The Tuxedo Park School ( coed, grades K-8) and The
Academy of Mount Saint Vincent (Catholic, girls grades 9-12). It seems odd
to me that these would be the destinations...there were buses for the Park
School, and AMSV was primarily a boarding school. Additionally, they had
small enrollments and it's VERY unlikely they'd generate enough revenue to
support a dedicated train.
The local public school (still there, grades K-12) had an expansive bus
system as well, reaching Sterling Forest and Eagle Valley. I wonder if this
isn't maybe an excursion train - I seem to recall that 1st and 2nd grades
got a train ride to Suffern as a "field trip" at some point.
Also, those platform lights were getting pretty ratty looking in the late
70's. Since the Town of Tuxedo Police Department occupied the station at that
time (and the waiting area was locked, I believe, except near train time in
the early AM and late PM), I doubt that there was much effort to preserve
them. Another question - does anyone know when the carded train "The Tuxedo"
was discontinued, and where it terminated? It's been mentioned in many books
as serving Tuxedo; did it deadhead up from Suffern, or did it originate at
Port Jervis?
