(erielack) Transfer cabooses..........

When the transfer cabooses came to the Mahoning Division, they were shunned 
by the troops.  Many complaints that the did not meet the union requirements 
for cabooses.........no bunks, etc.

They were used on the hot metal runs from Republic Steel in Youngstown to 
Republic Steel in Warren, a distance of about 20 miles, but at 20 MPH max for 
loaded trains plus some 10 MPH speed restrictions on bridges, it took about 
90 minutes each way.

I don't remember for certain, but think they were used on the Hubbard Hot 
Metal trains from Republic Steel in Youngstown to Valley Mold & Iron in 
Hubbard, Ohio, a distance of about 10 miles.
