Re: (erielack) O&W F3's on the Erie

If you can find a copy of Erie Power to look through, there is a shot of one
of these units in the book (in Erie B/Y). I can't recall for certain but I
want to say it's an early 1960's shot. Unfortunately the copy I have
access to is at the other house, so I can't quote the caption directly to
see if it's any more useful.

The question is, are patch jobs something that only really came about in the
mid '70's with the big and ugly CR and D&H paint-outs, or did people just
prefer not to take shots of ugly half-painted out units in the 50's? Of
course some roads had more pride, like the EL's relettering done with decals
and such so they still were very presentable. Even BN relettering doesn't
look bad, compared with a CR repaint of say an LV unit. But I did see a
shot of a C&O geep that was sold to the NYC in the late 50's, in blue paint
with NYC lettering.... so it did happen. (The geep was one used on the
Canada Southern... a couple from that group were sold to the Ashland
Railway, and one of them is on their portion of the ex-EL in Ohio).

O&W units went to the Erie, WP, NYC and Rock Island... don't think I have
seen a photo in print of one running for them in it's O&W paint, although 44
tonners may have been run that way.
